「Dude, you are so transparent. I bet you've never stepped foot here before, and if you get elected…if…you'll never step foot here again.」

「you're right, man, I've never been in this neighborhood before, but I'm here now. But just on the way in here, I saw empty storefronts. I saw badly patched potholes. I saw a guy carrying his bicycle tire underneath his arms because he knew that was the only way to keep from getting it stolen. But I don't know what this community truly wants…or truly needs. But if you'll talk to me, I'll listen.」

「Act in a way that'll make you smile when you're old and gray and lying under a pale pink nursing-home blanket, thinking about...the life you lived. You do that, you'll be the man your father wanted. 」

「Now, Randall Pearson I've only known for a few months. He's got a lot of passion, but will he serve us? All I know is that he is fundamentally decent, which isn't necessarily in vogue these days I know he drives two hours each way every day to get here. He has knocked on so many of our doors, when we sang"Somebody's knocking at Your Door" last Sunday, a little girl called out, she said,"It's Randall Pearson." It's not 15 years of history here, but he has sure done a lot with the time he's had.」

Randall:「I was adoped by a white family in Pittsburgh. I know what it's like to have people look at you like you don't belong, to overlook you, to underestimate you. to...」

Sol:「Is this all just to tell us you're the best candidate 'cause you were overlooked as a kid?」

Randall:「I'm not the best candidate because I'm overlooked, Mr.Brown, I'm the best candidate because the 12th district is.」

「I've been reading the minutes from the last four city council public meetings, okay? Last November, Elaine Wallace complained about the water in her son's school. And Sol said he'd look into it. That was over a year ago. James Wallace told him that his snow wasn't getting plowed. He couldn't even make it to work. He came back to complain three more times......The list is endless. The "I'll look into its" are endless. This is a complicated job, and I will have a lot to learn. But I can promise you this. I will never let them take eight of your bus stops just because they leave you with three. I will fight side by side with you for better schools, fair housing and for more jobs. I will fight to make sure that your snow gets plowed in the winter, and if it doesn't. I will do more than just"look into it." I swear to God that I will show up, and I will shovel it with you. Take a chance on me.」
